ONA x Leica Photowalk

Over the past year, I have grown to love photography community events such as photowalks. It is a great way to learn and bond with other creatives with a similar love for photography.

This year I attended a photowalk by ONAbags and Leica Cameras for Photoville 2018 in Brooklyn. This event was hosted and lead by Jose “Tutes” Tutiven, a Photographer based in New York City, whom I met at a previous ONAbags event in 2017.

I was ecstatic to find out we were going to be shooting on Leica that was lend to the people participating in the photowalk. All the photos below were shot on the Leica Camera AG Leica Q with a fixed 28mm F.1/7 focal length. I heard about Leica cameras for a couple of years now and it was great to have hands-on experience with the model. It was small, lightweight, easy to carry around and produce stunning images. I had a great time using it and shooting something a little different.

It was great to be a part of this event and seeing some familiar faces. Thank you ONAbags and Leica for collaborating for this photowalk. I can’t wait for the next one.

POP: Pursuit of Kindness

The POP team brings the creative community together to host their Pursuit of Kindness to celebrate their Worldwide Instameet in Gantry Plaza State Park, NYC.

The theme of the Instameet was inspired by their partnership with kindness.org who sent out flowers for the 500 creatives who attended to use in their photos and to bring everyone together. The event was an amazing turn out as familiar acquaintances were reunited and new friendships blossom.

The POP team continues to embark on their Worldwide Instameet by traveling to more cities like Chicago.

Sponsors for the event include Fujifilm, Skillshare, Palladium Boots, Woodsnap, Soltau NYC, Photo Shelter, Kindness.org, and W New York - Union Square.

ONA Dumpling Crawl and Photo Walk

ONA celebrates their new product releases of 2017, by hosting their annual photo walk through the boroughs of New York City, to taste authentic Dumplings at two amazing spots in Chinatown.

We first met up at Mimi Chengs, where everyone took a bite out of authentic, organic Dumplings. Afterward, three fellow community members who were co-hosting the event divided people into groups and lead them on the photo walk throughout Chinatown where everyone took awesome portrait and street photos. There was also a surprise giveaway to a few individuals who produce awesome images and content from the event by using their hashtags.

By the end of exploring through Chinatown, we went to our final destination, Nom Wah Tea Parlor, another dumpling restaurant where the group had more Dumplings and a couple of lucky individuals who got giveaways from the event.

If you are not familiar with ONA, they are a New York City-based retailers of high-end camera bags and accessories designed for Creative Professionals and Hobbyist. Unlike other camera bags, ONAbags helps individuals by accommodating their everyday lifestyle and protection of their valuables.

They recently launched their new product line, The Bond Street bag specifically designed for mirrorless and instant cameras. It is adapted from the Bowery bag and handcrafted from the same full-grain leather, water-resistant waxed canvas, and antique brass hardware.

They also introduce the Kyoto Wrist Strap, a camera wrist strap made up with same full-grain fine leather material as the camera bags. It was also their giveaways at the event.

I was glad to be able to join their event and meet people behind ONA along with other photographers. If you are looking for premimum camera bags and accessories, check out them out.

This event was co-hosted by Jane Kim, Ilitch Peters, and Jose "Tutes" Tutivan. Check out their amazing portfolio.

#Pursuitofportaits Hello 2017

The creators of POP (Pursuit of Portraits) hosted their annual Instameet Hello 2017 in NYC, where hundreds of photographers from across the country come to make friends, network, socialize, and take awesome portraits.

The Pursuit of Portraits is an Instagram community of portrait lovers featuring their best portraiture photography. What started out as personal Instagram account for Saunak Shah, the founder of POP evolved into a universal and diverse community for talented individuals.

The platform continues to grow as they continue to host their events such as the Instameets and publishing their inaugural print magazine catered to the art of portraiture by fellow photographers. They also partnered with brands such as Scotch & Soda, Fujifilm, NewYork.com, Dan Wellington, W Hotels, and more.

Despite the wet and cold weather the Instameet was a success. It was a great way to start off the new year by connecting with fellow talented creators and opening up a world of opportunities.

New Jersey Camera Show

For the first time this year I attended the New Jersey Camera Show held at Unique Photo in Fairfield, New Jersey.  The three day event brought over dozens of photographers from beginners to professionals all over Jersey for an opportunity to attend classes, sample and purchase discounted merchandise.

If you don't know, Unique Photo is the largest and privately own Camera store in New Jersey with over of dozens of popular brand products; Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm, Panasonic, Sony, Olympus, Leica, and more. I rented a Canon EOS 5D Mark III for the first time for my Gangsta Geisha project.

While at the event, I was able to attend two classes: One and Two Light Portraits with Bobbi Lane and Fashion Lighting To Take To The Bank with Lindsay Adler. These two hour classes were $10 each but was reimburst with tokens to be use on purchasing merchandise.

The Photographers at the workshops were immensely informative about studio lighting. I would be setting up my own in-home studio for the winter so taking these workshops definitely helped me and gave me ideas for my portraits.

All the images were shot on my new Canon EF 50mm 1.8
